Wolverhampton schools to reopen after odour cleared

Two schools which were closed due to a smell which provoked unexplained nausea will reopen this week after the odour was removed.

Green Park School in Wolverhampton was forced to shut on Tuesday and Wednesday after the unusual odour was detected near its swimming pool, leading to paramedics assessing “a number of patients”.

Neighbouring school Stowlawn Primary also closed on Wednesday as a precaution while checks were under way.

City of Wolverhampton Council confirmed that Stowlawn Primary would reopen to staff and pupils on Thursday, while Green Park would open for staff on Thursday and pupils on Friday.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Remedial work has been carried out to the heating and air-handling systems today, which has successfully removed the odour that caused the concern.”

West Midlands Fire Service had attended the site on Tuesday, saying its specialist monitoring equipment detected nothing of concern.
