Attack on house treated as hate crime

Police are treating an attack at a house in south Belfast as a racially motivated hate crime.

Windows were smashed at the property on Ormeau Embankment while racially-motivated graffiti was sprayed on the walls.

It is believed the damage was caused some time between lunchtime on Monday and 09:20 GMT on Tuesday.

Sinn Féin South Belfast assembly member Deirdre Hargey described the incident as “disgusting”.

“Our community is proudly diverse and people who come here to make it their home deserve to be welcomed, not targeted,” she said.

Police have appealed for anyone who has any information about the incident to contact them.
