Firefighters remain at the scene of a hotel blaze in Glasgow city centre.

The alarm was raised on the fourth floor of the Revolver Hotel on Virginia Street, in the Merchant City, at about 18:20 on Saturday

At its height, eight crews battled the “well-developed fire” but no-one is understood to have been injured.

Two fire crews continued to carry out dampening down work on Sunday morning.

Police Scotland said the blaze was not being treated as wilful at this time.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson said the fire was “under control” but was unable to say if it had been fully extinguished.

The building, which also houses the Polo Lounge nightclub, and several neighbouring buildings were evacuated on Saturday evening as a precaution.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Revolver said the incident had been “promptly and effectively managed” by fire crews and praised staff for their “calm and exemplary handling of the situation”.

Polo Lounge said it was forced to cancel planned events on Saturday evening.
